3 Years | Blue Flame
19th May 2014- Pipette to Thread
I did a Chemistry degree for 4 years.
I’m changing my career path and pursuing my initial dream: becoming a FASHION DESIGNER!
This blog is not my first but hopefully it will be the last one I start for myself! I aim to inspire those who have lost or pushed aside their dreams whilst pursing mine. This will kinda be like my fashion diary but also at the same time I hope to showcase some items that have inspired me to perfect my craft and accomplish my goal.
Don’t believe what society tells you: it’s never too late to pursue your vision. No matter if you’re 21 or 71, you can always pursue your dreams.
“Write the vision; make it plain… so he may run who reads it”
And exactly three years later, here we are! Happy blogversary to Pursue:Inspire! My baby! To celebrate I had a mini photoshoot. I hope you enjoy the images in this post and thanks to my hubby for taking these!
I want to say a HUGE, HUGE thank you to everyone who has subscribed, read and shared posts over the years. Also a HUGE, HUGE thank you to everyone who has contributed to some of my blog topics, to those interviewed during P:I Talks and guest blog writers! Your love and support means so much!
I thought I would reflect on the first ever blog post I wrote on this platform after Style Medium recreated her first ever blog post on her 2 year blogversary earlier this month (see it here).
So like I said I have a Chemistry degree but I changed my career path. Partly because my heart wasn’t in it and the end goal job prospects weren’t appealing to me. It was never plan A so I decided to go down my path A. Of course this was met with some difficulty due to my highest qualification being a GCSE A in Textiles and I’d only done one fashion related short course on upcycling at V&A museum.
It’s so easy to get frustrated and say that I haven’t taken any steps to walk towards my dream of becoming a fashion designer since the above post 3 years ago, or belittle them. So I’m making a conscious decision to celebrate my efforts:
• I took sewing lessons with an auntie of mine before getting married as per here
• Took up 3 short courses at Morley College for Fashion Illustration and Fashion Design, as here
• Purchased books to further my understanding of specific areas of the fashion industry
• Received business mentoring for development
• Attended a Prince’s Trust course to build business skills
The race since May 2014 has been an interesting one. This platform that was initially meant to give people a hope to continue with their dreams through my “relentless” documentation of my journey to pursuit has evolved into a platform where lifestyle and mindsets are challenged and music is shared, as well as different aspects of faith. It’s become less about my fashion journey and more about… life!
It did bother me at first but then I came to the realisation that life changes and evolves, and it’s ok! 3 years in and I’m still exploring what it means and looks like to Pursue:Inspire. I’m still growing and learning, and it’s continual.
I acknowledge that I am not where I wanted to be due to a mixture of life happening, fear and not being 100% focused on dreams. However I’m not where I used to be and I am so grateful. I have had so many great fashion (and blog) related experiences over the years and I’m looking forward to more by God’s grace!
Don’t be discouraged if there are things in life that delay your path to pursuit. Keep pushing and don’t give up. You’ll never reach your destiny if you completely quit. Press on!
